Mr. Nola Nerd Couple Music Podcast Episode 24: The Afghan Whigs, The Mountain Goats, Singles Soundtrack, and Chris Cornell

I’m finally back with a music podcast! This one gives short impressions of the latest from Kendrick Lamar, Father John Misty, The Afghan Whigs, and the Mountain Goats.  I also talk about how my anticipation of the Singles soundtrack changed with the suicide of Chris Cornell.  Finally, I attempt to sum up why music is important in my life and how it has saved from a few bouts of real anxiety and depression, how I’ve spent more time with people like Chris Cornell or Paul Westerberg than some family members, and how concerts should be safe places.

Mr. Nola Nerd Couple Music Podcast Episode 23: Shortened Radiohead and What the Hall of Fame Gets Wrong

Radiohead is like a handful of sand: everytime I think I have them in my grasp; they slip away.  In this Mr. Nola Nerd Couple Music Podcast, I talk about how I have not seen an entire set of Radiohead even though I’ve been to two of their concerts.  I also give my unsolicited opinion on the Rock’n’Roll Hall of Fame, with a huge amount of praise to Jeff Ament’s shirt that he wore to the ceremony.

Mr. Nola Nerd Couple’s Music Podcast Episode 22: Brian Wilson and How I Learned to Love EDM

In a short podcast about music, I talk about Brian Wilson’s concert recently at the Saenger Theater in New Orleans.  I also discuss how I completely changed my mind on EDM.  I will be back next week with my thoughts on Radiohead’s show, and then the music podcast will take a break until the end of April.

Mr. Nola Nerd Couple’s Music Podcast Episode 21: Old 97s’ Graveyard Whistling and Ryan Adams in Concert

I asked Mrs. Nola Nerd Couple to marry me with an Old 97s song playing in the background.  Obviously, they are an important band to us and a new release is always a big deal in at Nola Nerd Couple headquarters.  Another important artist to us is Ryan Adams.  In fact, he is the one artist that I would say we are equal fans.  He was awfully sick for this show and he canceled his next performance.  You couldn’t tell until he told us at the show we attended.

Mr. Nola Nerd Couple’s Music Podcast Episode 20: Angel Olsen in Concert, The Republic NOLA, and Sun Kil Moon’s Latest Album

In this week’s music podcast, Mr. Nola Nerd Couple reviews the recent Angel Olsen concert as well as the venue the show was held, The Republic in New Orleans.  He also tells you why he listening to Sun Kil Moon is like a boxing match. When the punches land, they are devastating.

Sun Kil Moon’s Common as Light and Love are Red Valleys of Blood:

I noticed when I recorded the podcast, that I found myself contradicting what I originally thought of this record. I thought it was unfocused, but the more I think about it, the more I think I’m wrong.  He seems to be unfocused but he knows what he is doing.  Again, I think the boxing metaphor applies.  He does feign a lot, he throws body punches to wear you out, but when he wants to land a knockout punch, he does with skill and percision.

Mr. Nola Nerd Couple Music Podcast Episode 18: My Favorite Albums of 2016

I didn’t listen to as many new albums as I would have like to this year.  I did, however, listen to a lot of great ones.  This is by no means a best of list.  This is a list of my favorite albums of the year.  In other words, the ones that I listened to the most…the ones I kept coming back to over and over.

All the albums in the podcast are on Spotify.
