This past weekend was our ninth anniversary running this blog in one of its various forms. Now and then, we like to take stock of where we are and what we want NolaNerdCouple.com to be. In other words, let’s take a look at the vision for Nola Nerd Couple in 2020.
Sorry couldn’t resist stringing the word vision with 2020.
The last three years have been harsh. Sure it was also the happiest years of our lives because of the baby, but we also had some issues. The Mrs. had prepartum depression, and I had paternal postpartum blues. We each had a surgery that slowed us down quite a bit physically.
These issues meant the website had to go on the back burner. Yet, things are looking up for the future. We both feel so much better now. We both took care of work things that allow us to do our jobs more efficiently. By prioritizing, we are free to spend more time writing and producing content.
More importantly, it allows more time for experiencing things. We base our content upon experiences in the real world (traveling, eating, comic-coning) and the entertainment world (enjoying our favorite fandom, especially Star Wars). We have gone on more adventures and read more books in the past three months than we did in the last three years.
Hopefully, we can keep it going.
The hardest-hit section of NolaNerdCouple.com was the videos and podcasts. My trusty iMac had a hard drive failure after eight years of faithful service.
My other computer is a Chromebook. I write most of our posts on it. However, my Mac was perfect for editing and publishing video and audio. Being close to fifty years in age, I loved the 27-inch monitor. Plus, all of our intro and outros were on that computer.
Hopefully, we can get a new one soon.
The one area of Nola Nerd Couple that we haven’t ignored has been the social media side of the things. We are still very active on Facebook, Instagram, and Twitter. The Mrs. handles most Instagram posts, while I usually post to twitter. We both work on Facebook posts.
The goal is to release more content. Last year, we were just short of 100 posts. I want that number to double if possible. It’s going to take a lot of work, but this is a labor of love project. Plus, I’m quietly opinionated, so this is a perfect way for me to release my outlook on books, movies, fandoms, places, and things.
Of course, I would love to do more multimedia projects. Videos and podcasts are fun to do. Plus, they will be great for the little one to discover when our little one is older.
Our topics will stay the same. Hopefully, we will have more book reviews. I would also like to do more content for when our day jobs and this hobby intersect.
So, I wrote that we are both ok, but you are probably wondering what the baby is up to.
Last year we went to ArtsPlay – classes that use music to help babies with bilateral movements and socialization – a few times. Recently, we got an email talking about this year’s classes. My wife read the email earlier in the day, and when she was looking at again to tell me about it, she just stopped and said, “Oh my god!”
This was the image they used to advertise the 2020 sessions.
Maybe we need to get her an agent.
