While all three of us (yes the five year old is a gamer), FAN EXPO helps demonstrate how big the gaming world has become. eSports is now a recognized high school sport in Louisiana. Gaming stores are always hosting tournaments with large draws. We are not talking about a small movement for nerds anymore. Gaming is everywhere and for everyone.

Meet the Voices Behind Some of the Biggest Franchises

One of the convention’s biggest draws is the chance to meet voice actors behind iconic video game characters. Steve Downes, best known as the voice of Halo’s protagonist Master Chief, will be meeting and taking photos with fans. Downes has voiced the character in multiple Halo games over the past two decades, helping bring the heroic super-soldier to life.

Maggie Robertson will also be attending. Robertson quickly made her mark by voicing the internet-breaking villain Lady Dimitrescu in last year’s Resident Evil: Village. As a 9-foot-tall vampire queen inspired by Gothic horror, Dimitrescu became a viral meme and fan favorite. With Ms. Robertson attending, I’m betting we will see plenty of Dimitrescu cosplay!

Other guests include Xander Mobus, voice of the protagonist in the Japanese role-playing game Persona 5. Fans will have the chance to meet the actors behind some of gaming’s most iconic characters.

Immerse Yourself in an Interactive Louisiana-Themed Adventure

FAN EXPO will host live action roleplaying games (LARPs) based on Louisiana myths and legends. These interactive adventures let players get inside a story and influence the narrative through their character’s actions. Guided by a game master, players will embark on 1.5 hour stories featuring monsters and creatures from regional folklore.

LARPs are performed live, with players costuming as their characters. No acting or roleplaying experience is required. Participants can get into the spirit by dressing up, but are also welcome to join in casually. These beginner-friendly pop-up adventures offer a chance to try roleplaying in a lighthearted setting. In addition to tournaments with prizes on the line, the lounge features open play times. Gamers can practice and play friendlies in a social setting.
