Pensacon

Comics Panels at Pensacon 2019

Pensacon has grown over the years into a full-featured pop culture experience, and one of our favorites. For one weekend in February, it takes over all Downtown Pensacola. No matter how big Pensacon grows, it always remembers comic books help start the fan festival craze. So, today, we are going to preview the panels dealing with comic books at Pensacon 2019.

Friday Panels

Civil rights and Social Justice Movements as Reflected in Comic Books.

Friday, February 22, 4-45 pm Pensacola Grand Room C

Tony Isabella with our friends the Longbox guys

Tony Isabella is a national treasure. The creator of Black Lightning, along with Kevin Grevioux, will be looking at comic books through the light of the civil rights and social justice movements. Having been to panels that Mr. Isabella served on, this should be entertaining and enlightening.

Independent Comic Book Publishing

Friday, February 22 5:15-6 pm Pensacola Grand Room C

Comic creators take you through the process of publishing your work on your comic.

Saturday Panels

Left Versus the Right! How Partisan Politics Plays Out in Comic Books

Saturday, February 23, 11-11:45 am, Pensacola Grand Room C

This panel examines how politics of the age or certain figures can be reflected in comic books. It will also explore how artists and writers showed in their works. The LongBox guys will host this panel, so we recommend this one.

Marvel Monster Comics

Saturday, February 23, 2:45-3:30 pm, Pensacola Grand Room C

Comic creators Tony Isabella and Mark Maddox will look at the history of Marvel’s monsters, especially those of Jack Kirby.

Horrible, Horrible, Horrible Stereotypes in Comic Books

Saturday, February 23, 4-4:45 pm, Pensacola Grand Room C

Part of the Horrible Stereotypes Panel from a Previous Pensacon

Our good friends, The Longbox Guys will be hosting this panel. They will look at comic book’s unfortunate use of racial stereotypes throughout the years. They will give examples of some of the worse ones and how this has been rectified over the years. We have attended this panel before, and it is one of the most informative (and funny) panels we have attended at any con.

Sunday Comic Panels

Writing for Comic Books

Sunday, February 24, 2:45-3:30pm Pensacola Grand Room C

Led by creators Tony Isabella, Barry Gregory, Kevin Grevioux, Steve Horton, and Ande Parks, this panel will focus on the craft of writing for comic books. Experience is always the best teacher, and these creators have it.

Marvel vs…

Sunday, February 24, 4-4:45 pm Pensacola Grand Room B
A fan discussion with prizes.

Stupid Super Villians That We Love

Sunday, February 24, 5:15-6pm Pensacola Grand Room C

Let’s face it, not all comic book villains are in Joker’s league. There are a lot that are bad. Yet, sometimes some are so bad, they become your favorite. This panel looks at these low-lifes.

What panel will you attend? What panel, about comic books, would you like to see at a fan convention?

I am one of the main authors for this website, plus I handle most of the technical aspects (web design, editing podcasts, and videos, etc.) During the day, I'm a Computer Science and African American Studies Teacher. Most of my free time I'm listening to music or podcasts and watching soccer. I love Star Wars and Star Trek equally. I'm a horrible gamer yet I game. You can reach me at nolanerdcouple@gmail.com
