Comic Con Wishlist: Memphis Comic Expo

Welcome to our new feature: comic cons we wish we could attend!

If you asked us what our dream job would be, it would probably be professional comic con reporters. Attending comic cons around the nation, previewing them before the event, and reviewing them after. We love visiting new cities and meeting like-minded people. Hell, we do this for free now, but it would be nice to attend so many more cons! So to start this new feature, we will look at the Memphis Comic Expo!

Memphis Comic Expo

The Memphis Comic Expo is a rare breed. It is entirely creator centered. No actors. Just creators. You want to meet the stars of “The Batman” you will have to attend a different con. If you’re going to meet someone who created Batman comics, this is the con for you.

Speaking of Batman, Scott Snyder is a featured guest of the Memphis Comic Expo. He will be there on Saturday. He is a writer that I haven’t had the chance to meet, and I’m jealous of everyone that gets the opportunity.

Legendary creator Chris Claremont will also be in Memphis. His run on X-Men set the standard for the series. We missed the chance to meet him at a previous con, so we are green with envy of anyone who walks away with a signed comic from him.

Other creators include David Finch (Batman, Justice League of America), Peter David (Space Cases), Meredith Finch (Xena), Guy Gilchrist (MuppetBabies), Jerry “The King” Lawler (he does art for the WWE), Vita Ayala (Black Panther), Anna Zhuo (Vampirella) and many more.

Of course, the con will have more than comic creators. There will be an artist alley, fan groups, cosplayers, and many vendors.

The con will also have Q&A panels, gaming tournaments, costume contests, meetups, and more.

Enjoying the Con Outside of the Con

Plus, there will be a Drink and Draw event. We have attended this type of event at another convention. Even though neither of us drink, we had a blast and came home with some great art.

And this con is in Memphis. One of my absolute favorite cities. If you are in the area, go check it out. New Orleans folks, it isn’t a bad drive. I wish we could, but we have a few events with our daughter scheduled.

The Memphis Comic Expo will be October 19th and 20th at the Agricenter International. The con runs both days from 10 am to 6 pm. Purchase your tickets now!
