Big Easy Con Postponed to November

Big Easy Con Postponed

On Friday, Big Easy Con postponed their convention to the first weekend of November.

An announcement like this three weeks from when the con was originally scheduled (June 1-2) is sure to upset people. Vendors who committed to this con, out of state fans who were planning to make a trip and the local nerd community have every right to be mad.

Non-refundable hotel rooms is a tough break; however, it doesn’t hurt to try to get one. A lot of hotels will understand this was circumstances beyond your control. Same for airlines; at least ask for a transfer. If you don’t ask the answer will be no, so it doesn’t hurt to ask.

Still, that doesn’t make up for lost money because a lot of these vendors now don’t have anything booked that weekend and that is a loss of money.

This is not easy for this convention. And it will get harder. They have lost the trust of some of their projected audience.

Trust: They have to earn it back.

While the original dates were actually better for us personally, we will give Big Easy Con the benefit of the doubt. We might be in the minority. Yet, we have been to a con that wasn’t ready. It was a miserable experience that no one should have to go through. People had made international trips to Space City Con and what was promised was not delivered.

That’s why we welcome Big Easy Con’s decision to postpone. It now has to deliver. Announcing Zachary Levi as their first guest is a good first step.

This is not a new company pulling off their first con. This is an experienced company trying to put on a great con in a new city. Awesome Con and Rose City Con have gotten rave reviews over the years.

We trust that recognized they still had some work to do. Now it’s time to roll up their sleeves and earn back some trust.

Update: This is actually a really good weekend to move this convention. LSU and the Saints are on a bye. Voodoo is the weekend before.

  • Hopefully they can pull in some more great guests before then! I've never been but it seems like it's going to be a fun con!

    • We do too! This company has done some great cons at other locations. If you see us there, say hi!
