Writing While Waiting: Describe something you learned in high school.

Describe something you learned in high school.

WordPress has a daily prompt. I decided to use these prompts to pass the time when I’m waiting in the car, doctor’s office, etc., instead of doom scrolling. While I won’t do this every day, I will do it from time to time. This is a quickly written that will often be done entirely on the phone. Today’s wait is getting the little one off the bus. Here is today’s subject: Describe something you learned in high school.

The one thing I learned is that if you want people to learn from you, you need to learn about them. You don’t need to know everything about them, but if you can discover one thing about them, they tend to believe in you.

One of my best teachers did this. He would occasionally put us in a large circle and ask ice breaker questions. He would answer as well. He quickly became my favorite teacher, and I found friends I probably wouldn’t have without him. It made me comfortable in different social circles.

It also worked with my teachers. By finding out things about them, they became less of an authority figure and more of a team player in my learning.

It’s why I became a high school teacher.
