The Family that Pensacons Together…

Except for the year our daughter decided to arrive, we have made it to Pensacon every year since its inception. While we have been to larger cons in larger cities – including ones in Philadelphia, Chicago, and London – Pensacon remains our favorite. They always seem to know what fandoms we need to get signatures for your collection. We love that the entire city seems to join the fun. We have always had a blast.

But last year’s Pensacon, we attended a different comic con. One that had more wonder than ever before. Read about our 2020 Pensacon.

No, Pensacon didn’t have a Disney-type makeover. Instead, it was the same fun and smoothly ran convention we have been to since it began.

What was different was that we didn’t attend as the Nola Nerd Couple, but more as the Nola Nerd Family.

Our little one made the con a different experience. We had been binge-watching the Goldbergs before the con, and she picked up running like Barry. Barry, in turn, runs like Naruto. So a lot of times, this little girl, dressed as Belle, ran down the hall like Naruto. At comic con, that makes a little girl a star.

She wowed celebrities and got free things from them. She loved being outside and seeing the cosplayers.

This year, she is way more articulate. She is developing her little fandoms (Frozen, Peppa Pig, etc.). While we haven’t watched Barney, she recognizes Barney (I’m guessing she picks it up on the streets!). So when she hears Bob West do the voice, she might recognize him.

She is also obsessed with Mario right now. She can watch streams of Mario and get so excited. So for her to meet Samantha Kelly (Princess Peach) and Kenny James (Bowser) will be a treat.

Last year, she got to meet Jason Marsden, Bill Farmer, and Jim Cummings – all who have done Disney voices. But this year, THE voice will be there – Bret Iwan.

Ok, so who is Bret Iwan? HE IS MICKEY MOUSE! I can’t wait for her to meet him!

Of course, we are concerned about the pandemic. We are vaccinated and will wear our masks indoors for the protections of others. We probably will avoid certain areas that can be crowded, but to be honest, we normally avoided them before. Being introverts, we are natural social distancers.

Plus, our little one has a nice section of her larger closet dedicated to costumes from the New Orleans area. I’m not sure if she will be Dorothy from the wizard of oz or Jyn Erso from Star Wars, but she will be in costume!

Seriously, if you are on the fence about bring a little one to con, go. Not only should you go, but look at the con the way they do.

Especially at a family-friendly con such as Pensacon.
