I had plans for Star Wars Celebration. Each day I mapped out my schedule so I knew where to be.
And, I didn’t follow any of it.
I had my best Star Wars Celebration yet.
Moreso, it turned out to be the best five-day date of my life.
A guy who was not at celebration posted this reaction video to the Episode IX trailer.
A “pundit” soon posted that doing things like this make guys undateable. Well, that’s idiotic.
Most of the time at Celebrations, because we have different Star Wars interests, my wife and I go our own ways.
Well, for this one, with a few exceptions, we didn’t. We stuck together for most of the convention.
Now, remember, we also work together at our real jobs. We are together all the time. You would think we needed a break from each other.
We didn’t. Celebration ended up not being only about Star Wars, but how two people can date, get married, and deepen their relationship because of their obsession with a fictional universe. We had our own Star Wars Celebration love story.
Of course, we have tons of blogs planned on the things we did at Celebration.
What made this celebration amazing for me were the little moments I spent with my wife. For instance, buying a kids soccer ball for our little one was a special moment for me. We always buy for ourselves, but now we get to indoctrina…share our love for the saga with our daughter. It was a small capitalist moment, but it was sentimental one as well.
Meeting a lot of the Star Wars authors was a massive deal for us. For this celebration, books became the thing we wanted to collect. Meeting Alexander Freed, Claudia Gray, EK Johnston and more was a special treat. And of course, we kept thinking about how these books, signed by the authors, will go the Nola Nerd Baby.
My favorite moment was playing Star Wars Destiny together. We played at Celebration 2017, but we didn’t play again after my wife became pregnant. It was great having all the craziness of the show floor around us, and yet here we were having a quiet moment playing a Star Wars game.
Of course, she won.
My wife and I love Star Wars and each other. Celebration reminded me of how much both apply.
Not once did we get snippy with each other. Even when we were hangry.
While in lines we talked about future plans for our girl, our house, and our website.
We held hands walking across the show floor.
We employed the split and conquer technique during the swag trading social.
Breaks allowed for us to FaceTime our baby girl.
In other words, Star Wars Celebration was not only a celebration of the saga but a celebration of us.

Plans? For amateurs. Y’all ain’t amateurs. We work together too. If we aren’t out on the road, we are in the studios. Pretty much side by side. Wouldn’t have it any other way.
Thanks. We kept finding things that we wanted to do together. This was my favorite celebration by far. In fact, we keep talking about the next one, which we don't even know when it will be!
Best way to do it. When we travel for ourselves -- very rare -- we don't even book lodging in advance. We stay in places that interest us.
