Reading Marvel Star Wars Comics in Chronological Order scaled

This summer, I’m diving into an epic journey through the galaxy far, far away by reading Marvel Star Wars comics in chronological order of the events in the galaxy. With a detailed reading guide to follow, I’m ready to explore the rich lore of the Star Wars universe and experience the story as it unfolds across time.

Why Marvel Star Wars Comics in Chronological Order?

Reading the comics in chronological order lets me immerse myself in the galaxy’s history as it happens in-universe, starting with the High Republic era (382 BBY) and moving through the rise of the Empire, the Rebellion’s fight, and beyond.

Unlike traditional release order, which can jump back and forth across timelines, chronological order creates a seamless narrative, letting you witness the rise and fall of the Jedi, the reign of the Sith, and the struggle for freedom in the galaxy.

This approach reveals how every era connects, from the Jedi’s golden age to the chaos of the Galactic Civil War and the struggles of the Resistance. It’s a perfect way for fans to uncover the deeper layers of Star Wars canon.

Furthermore, as a history major, I’m interested in seeing how history in this galaxy repeats itself.

Where I’m Starting: The High Republic

The only thing I know about The High Republic comes from the video game Jedi: Survivor. I know some of the High Republic ties in with the novels being released, as they often overlap. Additionally, I am aware that it was a planned series intended for release through various media, including comics, books, and other formats.

If I have time to read some of the books, I will, but I plan to focus primarily on comics this summer.

What I’m Looking Forward To

This reading guide covers every Marvel Star Wars Comics in Chronological Order , from ongoing series to limited runs and one-shots. Here are a few highlights I’m especially excited about:

Marvel Star Wars Comics in Chronological Order: Princess Leia
  • The High Republic Volumes: Exploring the height of the Jedi Order and the challenges they face.
  • Darth Vader Series: Delving into the rise and reign of one of the most iconic villains in the galaxy. I’ve read some of these, but look forward to a reread.
  • Leia Organa: The older I get the more fascinated I am about her growth from a princess to a true leader. Again, I’ve read some of the comics about her before, but can’t wait to read them again.
  • Doctor Aphra: Following the adventures of a rogue archaeologist navigating the galaxy’s dark corners.
  • Bounty Hunters and Crimson Dawn Arcs: Uncovering the gritty underworld of the Star Wars universe.

We used to have most of these books in physical copies and still have a few. Unfortunately, a busted water pipe ruined a great deal of our collection. I think that’s why I put off reading comics for a while. It took a while to get over.

Now, I’m ready.

Building Toward the Classics

After the High Republic, I’ll move into the Prequel Trilogy era, the Original Trilogy (A New Hope, Empire Strikes Back, Return of the Jedi), and the post-Rise of Skywalker timeline. Each comic adds layers to the stories we already know and love, making this reading order the ultimate way to experience Star Wars.

The Ultimate Summer Adventure

With decades of storytelling condensed into Marvel’s official canon comics, this summer is set to be an unforgettable adventure. Whether I’m exploring the ancient Jedi or revisiting Darth Vader’s conquests, this journey promises action, surprises, and deeper insights into this galaxy far, far away.

If this sounds like your kind of adventure, you can follow the Marvel Star Wars Comics in chronological order to experience Star Wars in a whole new way. Visit your local comic book store or subscribe to Marvel Unlimited to read along.
