MLK Day at the New and Improved Louisiana Children’s Museum

Living in the New Orleans Area, we have lots of opportunities for our little one to grow, learn, and play. We have the Audubon institute, different classes and camps, and the Louisiana Children’s Museum. The new and improved Louisiana Children’s Museum is a marvelous place for children to learn and have fun.

The previous location for the LCM was in the warehouse district. It was a great set up, but it was getting very outdated. Also, it requires paid parking.

The new location is in New Orleans’s City Park. This allows them to have an outside area, including a garden and a pontoon boat that will serve as a floating classroom.

MLK Day

We took our dear little one there for Martin Luther King Day for the final day of King Fest. They had special events, including a peace parade, art classes, and Haitian folk dancing. Normally, they are closed Mondays, but they understood the educational outreach they could achieve on this day.

The Nola Nerd Baby was a little young to do most of the scheduled activities, but she did enjoy watching the dancing. To be able to keep a not yet two-year old’s attention is impressive and goes to show how beautiful the performance was. Mom and dad were mesmerized as well, so we forgot to take pictures.

Having Fun

When we got there, the Nola Nerd Baby was in full diva mode. She walked to the building as if she owned the place.

Diva.
Fashionista.

Once inside, she had a blast and didn’t stop. She drew, she played, and she laughed. She made a few friends and enjoyed every second.

Even though it was cold for New Orleans that day, she may have enjoyed the outside more. In fact, it was the only place she took a break. She decided to sit down and enjoy the fresh air.

Her favorite part outside was probably playing the steel drums outside. She could have banged on the drums all day.

After two hours there, she was worn out. We didn’t even get to the River sections, the music room, and barely did the food area. These are parts she loved previously!

How did we know she had fun? She didn’t put up a fight to leave because she knew the car ride would bring a much-needed nap!

Think About Becoming a Member of the Louisiana Children’s Museum

We highly recommend out of town visitors with little ones give the Museum a try. The Louisiana Children’s Museum is part of the reciprocal network of the American Children’s Museums. This means if you belong to a participating museum in your own town, you can get discounts on your entry to the LCM.

This is one of the many reasons why we are a member. They have different level prices, but it pays for itself with just a few visits. We can go at any time. Plus, since we love to travel, we can often check out other children’s museums.

We can’t wait to go back and see the smile on the little one’s face each time we go.
