The Hamper at Smitty's Seafood

The Hamper at Smitty’s Seafood is more than just a dish—it’s a celebration of Louisiana’s rich seafood tradition. For locals and visitors alike, this signature dish at Smitty’s Seafood in Kenner, LA, is a must-try for anyone craving authentic, flavorful boiled seafood.

The Hamper at Smitty's Seafood

Recently, we visited Smitty’s to celebrate Cristina’s mom and stepdad’s visit. There are tons of good seafood restaurants in our area. We love Smitty’s because it is your classic family-friendly neighborhood restaurant.

Why We Love The Hamper at Smitty’s Seafood

The Hamper is a seafood lover’s dream, packed with all the in-season shellfish you could ask for. When we ordered it, it came brimming with:

  • Crabs: Perfectly cooked, full of fat, eggs, and juice—just how we like them.
  • Crawfish: Small but packed with flavor, and they peeled like a dream.
  • Shrimp: Large, juicy, and incredibly filling.

Outside of crawfish season, the hamper includes crabs and shrimp only. I don’t mind. Not one bit.

But that’s not all. The Hamper also includes generous portions of:

  • Sausage
  • Mini corn on the cob
  • Potatoes
  • Mushrooms

This mix of seafood and hearty sides creates a well-rounded, satisfying meal that’s perfect for sharing with family or friends.

More Delicious Menu Options at Smitty’s Seafood

While The Hamper at Smitty’s Seafood is a showstopper, their menu is packed with other Louisiana favorites that are sure to hit the spot. Here are some highlights:

Fried Seafood

If you prefer fried seafood, Smitty’s offers golden, crispy options that are just as flavorful. From fried shrimp to catfish and oysters, their fried platters are served hot and fresh. This is often my go-to meal when I’m there.

Be careful, if you get the fried seafood, a cute girl might steal your fries.

Po’boys

You can’t visit a Louisiana seafood restaurant without trying a classic po’boy! Smitty’s serves up generous portions of roast beef, shrimp, and oyster po’boys, all dressed to perfection.

Gumbo & Etouffee

For a taste of true Cajun comfort food, try their gumbo or crawfish étouffée. These rich, savory dishes are packed with bold flavors and local ingredients. When I’m sick, I do crave their gumbo.

Appetizers

Start your meal with a crowd-pleasing appetizer like their crab cakes, fried mushrooms, or onion mums. I love the fried artichoke hearts.

Daily Specials

Be sure to check out their daily lunch and dinner specials for unbeatable deals on fresh seafood dishes.

No matter what you order, you’ll get authentic Louisiana flavors that make every bite memorable.

A Neighborhood Gem for Boiled Seafood

One of the things that makes Smitty’s Seafood so special is its welcoming, family-friendly atmosphere. Located on West Esplanade Avenue in Kenner, LA, it’s the kind of place where you feel right at home.

While Smitty’s is known for its fried seafood and New Orleans classics like roast beef po’boys, The Hamper at Smitty’s Seafood is what keeps us coming back time and time again.

Why You Should Visit Smitty’s Seafood

If you’re looking for fresh, flavorful boiled seafood served with a side of Louisiana hospitality, Smitty’s Seafood is the place to be. Whether you’re sharing The Hamper at Smitty’s Seafood with friends or trying one of their other local favorites, you’re in for an unforgettable meal.

    1. I was lucky that no one at my table wanted them! My city born wife is still intimidated by the prospect of peeling crabs. I keep yelling \”beast it\” like on Beasts of the Southern Wild but she wasn\’t amused.
