GalaxyCon New Orleans 2025: A Fantastic Event for Families

GalaxyCon New Orleans 2025 was a truly fantastic event for families, combining exciting celebrity interactions, fun and engaging activities for kids, and a welcoming community atmosphere. While we couldn’t attend all three days as planned due to personal issues, the time we spent at the convention was filled with unforgettable moments.

To get to the point: We really hope that GalaxyCon becomes a regular part of New Orleans’ summer entertainment!

In this post, I’ll share our experiences, highlight the best parts of the event, and explain why GalaxyCon deserves to become a permanent summer attraction in New Orleans.

A Star-Studded Guest List: Celebrities Who Made the Event Special

One of the most anticipated parts of GalaxyCon New Orleans 2025 was, of course, the celebrity guests. The lineup this year was impressive, featuring talented actors, voice artists, and pop culture icons. While we didn’t get to meet everyone, the few interactions we had left a lasting impression on our family.

Phil LaMarr: The Voice Behind Your Favorite Characters

Phil LaMarr was a standout guest, and meeting him was one of the highlights of our experience. Known for his roles in Futurama, Samurai Jack, Justice League, and even Pulp Fiction, he brought a contagious enthusiasm to the convention.

When I mentioned a recent Pulp Fiction text meme I’d shared with friends, he immediately jumped into character, saying, “Man, I don’t even have an opinion!” It was a hilarious and personal moment that showcased his love for his craft. Phil was equally warm and engaging with our daughter, chatting with her and making her feel like part of the conversation—a small gesture that meant so much to us as parents.

Joey Fatone: A Memorable Encounter

Joey Fatone, best known for being in NSYNC and appearances in movies like My Big Fat Greek Wedding, was another highlight. While travel delays prevented him from attending Friday, he more than made up for it on Saturday.

Our daughter, who had recently seen the play & Juliet on Broadway with her aunt, was thrilled to chat with Joey about the show. Despite looking a little tired, he gave her his full attention, asking thoughtful questions and sharing his thoughts about the production.

She couldn’t stop talking about the interaction for the rest of the night, and it’s a memory we’ll cherish forever.

Other Guests We Loved Seeing

While time was limited, we still managed to catch glimpses of other incredible guests.

  • Vincent Martella (Phineas and Ferb) delighted our daughter by doing the Phineas voice for her.
  • Christopher Daniel Barnes (The Little Mermaid) greeted fans warmly as they passed.
  • Mick Foley (WWE Hall of Famer) was a personal favorite of mine—I was absolutely starstruck seeing him in person.

Panels: Where Fandoms Come Alive

While we didn’t have time to attend as many panels as we’d hoped, the one we did experience—the Phil LaMarr and John DiMaggio Futurama Panel—was unforgettable.

Even though I’ve only seen a handful of Futurama episodes, the panel made me want to dive into the series. Phil LaMarr and John DiMaggio had an electric chemistry, effortlessly bouncing off each other with humor and genuine camaraderie.

What stood out most was their respect for the audience and each other. They listened intently to fan questions and shared behind-the-scenes stories that gave us a deeper appreciation for their work. My wife, a devoted Futurama fan, was thrilled, and I left the panel feeling inspired to explore the show further.

Family Zone: A Kid’s Paradise

If you’re attending GalaxyCon with kids, the Family Zone is a must-visit. This space was thoughtfully designed to keep younger attendees entertained and engaged, and it quickly became our daughter’s favorite part of the event.

  • LEGO Building Stations: She spent quite a bit of time building creative structures and showing off her impressive designs. And then, of course, knocking them down.
  • Art Activities: Joe Wos, an incredibly talented artist, created a custom cat drawing for her. She carried it around proudly for the rest of the day, and it’s now displayed on our fridge as a reminder of the fun she had.

The Family Zone gave us peace of mind as parents, knowing our daughter was having a blast in a safe and family-friendly environment.

Artist Alley: A Showcase of Talent

The Artist Alley was another highlight for our family. This area featured a variety of talented artists showcasing their work, from comics to fine art.

Kevin Kurz: The Art of the Nerd

One of the artists who stood out to us was Kevin Kurz, of The Art of the Nerd. His Disney-inspired artwork was breathtaking, with vibrant colors and intricate details that brought beloved characters to life. What’s more, his pieces were incredibly affordable, making it easy for fans to take home something special.

We highly recommend checking out Kevin’s work if you’re a fan of unique, nerdy art—you won’t be disappointed.

The Arcade: Fun for All Ages

The Arcade was easily one of the most popular spots at the convention, and it’s where we spent the majority of our time.

  • Classic and Modern Games: My wife and I had a blast racing in Mario Kart, while our daughter gravitated toward Minecraft and other kid-friendly games.
  • Just Dance: Watching our daughter perform a Just Dance routine with a new friend she made in the Family Zone was a heartwarming experience. The crowd of young adults cheering her on only added to the magic of the moment.
  • Rock Band: She even convinced me to join her for a performance of “Friday I’m in Love,” with her on vocals and me on bass. Later, she teamed up with another family for a rendition of “Man in the Box,” tackling a song she’d never heard before with confidence and enthusiasm.

The Arcade wasn’t just about the games—it was about creating shared experiences and connections with others.

A Sense of Belonging: The GalaxyCon Community

One of the things I love most about conventions like GalaxyCon is the sense of community they cultivate, and GalaxyCon New Orleans 2025 was no exception.

  • Scavenger Hunt: This simple activity encouraged attendees to explore different parts of the convention while interacting with staff and fellow con-goers.
  • Friendly Atmosphere: From the volunteers to the attendees, everyone we encountered was kind, helpful, and welcoming.

One thing that I can say is that the kids are alright. So many times, I saw teenagers and young adults being just amazing to each other. The number of them that took their time and talked to my daughter like she was a big person, made me smile. Watching these young people go on the JustDance stage and dance with her made her feel so included and seen. They gave her a sense of community.

So, yeah, the kids are alright.

Even though we didn’t participate in the After Dark events, it was clear that GalaxyCon offered something for everyone, no matter their age or interests. Some of the entertainment I’ve seen on Instagram looked amazing and made for a fun night!
