One of the things we love about Wizard World is its commitment to literacy programs in their host cities. This year they are partnering with Operation Restoration. Operation Restoration is a program that supports women and girls impacted by incarceration. At Wizard World New Orleans, you can donate to Operation Restoration and receive a free autographed photo.

Wizard World is asking that the attendees donate graphic novels, comics, science fiction books, or any other similar reading materials. To show thanks, Wizard World will gift a free pre-autographed celebrity photo from previous Wizard World shows to fans that donate two or more items. This is on a first-come, first-serve basis while supplies last.

As public school teachers, we applaud Wizard World’s dedication to increasing literacy in their host cities. Operation Restoration understands that jail should not mean we give up on women or their children. They are committed to removing the barriers women and their families face in improving their lives during and after incarceration. Their program, in our eyes, is an absolute good.

So look through your shelves and donate some books. If you aren’t going to Wizard World, keep operation restoration in mind and donate.
