- Our top park — Fuels our love of discovery and imagination.
- Number two — Connects adventure to nature and storytelling.
- A third — Holds the timeless traditions of our earliest visits.
- And the one that lags behind — The more Disney it gets, the more it loses the Disney magic .
Disney World Park Rankings
If there is one thing our family never gets enough of, it is exploring the magic of Walt Disney World.
Over many visits, we have created our own honest list of Disney World park rankings based on what truly matters to us.
Since becoming Disney Vacation Club members, we now treat each trip as an ultramarathon, rather than a sprint. Slowing down has helped us appreciate every detail of the parks, and these rankings reflect how our experiences and priorities have evolved.
Why Does Hollywood Studios Feel Like It Has Lost Some of Its Original Magic?
We still like Hollywood Studios, but it feels as if it has drifted away from the movie‑making charm that once defined it. When the park opened, it celebrated the art of filmmaking and the wonder behind creativity. Attractions such as the Backlot Tour and The Great Movie Ride gave us that sense of discovery.
Now, the focus is more on modern Disney Intellectual Properties such as Star Wars and Toy Story. While both are fun, they can make the park feel less connected than it once was.
We absolutely love Rise of the Resistance , which is one of Disney’s most impressive rides, and The Twilight Zone Tower of Terror is a thrill we never skip. Fantasmic still provides the perfect closing moment, but we do miss the behind‑the‑scenes storytelling that inspired us before.
In other words, we love parts of this park. I mean, look at my daughters face being rounded up by stormtroopers. She suspended her disbelief. That’s the goal of Disney, but lately I find this is the park, out of the four, that I feel I’m jolted back to reality more quickly.
We truly believe that by Disney focusing on itself in this park, it has actually lost some of its magic.
What Keeps Magic Kingdom Timeless for Our Family?
No matter how many times we go, the Magic Kingdom always feels joyful. The moment we walk down Main Street, U.S.A. and see Cinderella Castle, the magic hits us all over again.
While it does not sit at the top of our Disney World park rankings, it remains a family favorite. Our little one prefers slower rides, so we skip the bigger attractions like Tiana’s Bayou Adventure, Big Thunder Mountain, Space Mountain, Tron Lightcycle Run, and Seven Dwarfs Mine Train, unless we take turns with Rider Switch.
She loves The Jungle Cruise, Pirates of the Caribbean, and Haunted Mansion, and we ride it’s a small world, Dumbo, and the Carousel until we are sick.
The only issues we have with Magic Kingdom are not really Magic Kingdom’s fault. It is overcrowded, so Peter Pan’s flight is always too long a wait. It is the park that seems to have the most tantrums by kids or adults.
But this park’s magic is undeniable. The fact that m ydaugh
Still, every time I go, I turn into that little kid who first visited it in 1982.
Animal Kingdom: Why It Ranks Second in Our Disney World Park Rankings
Calling Animal Kingdom a “half‑day park” could not be more wrong for our family. With my wife teaching AP Environmental Science and AP Human Geography, this park doubles as a living classroom. It connects entertainment with education in such a natural way that we never want to rush through it.
Now that we are DVC members, we move through the park at a relaxed pace. We can easily go from rope drop to closing and still not see everything. Kilimanjaro Safaris is always breathtaking, while the Gorilla Falls and Maharajah Jungle Trek walking trails offer discoveries on every trip. I love a good soak on Kali River Rapids, and our little one finds pure joy floating through Na’vi River Journey.
We have not yet experienced Flight of Passage or the new Zootopia area, which opened on November 7, but they top our list for next time. Add in delicious food, Broadway‑level shows, and warm character experiences, and it becomes clear why, during our weeklong stay during Christmas, the only park day we have plans for is Animal Kingdom.
Epcot: The Unquestionable Winner in Our Disney World Park Rankings
Our hearts belong to Epcot, and it proudly tops our Disney World park rankings every time. No other park balances exploration, learning, and fun the same way.
We can spend hours wandering the World Showcase, sampling snacks, meeting characters, and talking with Cast Members from around the world. Although we don’t drink, we love snacking around the world.
Inside The Land, we never skip Living with the Land, and our little one adores Figment and Journey of Water Inspired by Moana. Those are non-negotiables for us on every trip. And if you ever have the extra money to do Behind the Seeds, it was an amazing tour.
We love thrills too. Test Track and Guardians of the Galaxy: Cosmic Rewind keep the excitement high, though Mission: SPACE is a no‑go for us. It is a great ride but too intense for us.
And then there is Spaceship Earth, my all‑time favorite ride. Its calm narration and journey through the history of human communication never fail to inspire me. It is the perfect mix of storytelling and discovery that captures everything Epcot stands for.
Epcot offers a space for learning, reflection, and imagination all at once. It is where we slow down, connect, and experience the true heart of Walt Disney World.
How Has Slowing Down Changed Our Disney Experience?
Becoming a Disney Vacation Club member has transformed our experience of Disney. We no longer feel the need to do everything at once. Instead, we take each day as part of a bigger journey, knowing there will always be another trip to enjoy.
Each visit becomes another chapter in our Disney story. We pay attention to the small details, enjoy rest days, and connect as a family. It is no longer about completing a checklist. It is about creating stories we will remember for years.
What Do Our Disney World Park Rankings Reveal About Us?
After many trips and family discussions, our Disney World park rankings look like this:
- Epcot – our perfect balance of learning, thrill, and inspiration.
- Animal Kingdom – our most immersive park and our one park day for this trip.
- Magic Kingdom – timeless, classic, and endlessly charming.
- Hollywood Studios – still fun but less about movie magic than it once was.
Walt Disney World continues to change, which keeps it exciting. Whether you visit for one day, a week, or take the relaxed Disney Vacation Club approach like we do, every park has its own form of wonder. Experiencing that wonder at your own pace is the greatest kind of Disney magic.
