Comic Con-ing: Megacon – First Look

Megacon in Orlando, FL is over Memorial Weekend and we will be attending! This will be Nola Nerd Baby’s first convention, so we are excited to dress her in some baby cosplay and have her see the sights and sounds that make comic conventions so much fun. We love going to Megacon and we just know our daughter will love it as well! Let us look at some of the offerings at this year’s con.
The guest list this year is fantastic. Jeff Goldblum! Besides portraying The Grandmaster in the Marvel Cinematic Universe, he is the subject of that awesome meme from Jurassic Park! Not to mention, has the famous FaceBook page, The Same Photo of Jeff Goldblum Every Day. If you are into horror, like my husband, you will remember him from The Fly. He is a legend and I am stoked to be able to meet him and add him to my autograph collection! My sister and I are also doing a photo op, because, let’s face it, it is Jeff Goldblum. Jeff is appearing Saturday only.

The amazing Jeff Goldblum in Jurassic Park.

I grew up watching Hercules: The Legendary Journeys and Xena: Warrior Princess. I have luckily met Kevin Sorbo, so to be able to meet Lucy Lawless and Renee O’Conner had me giddy. Xena is such a strong female idol that I cannot wait to show my daughter the series when she is old enough. I have also met Bruce Campbell (Autolycus) and Ted Raimi (Joxer), so if I could ever meet Michael Hurst (Iolaus), all of my main characters would be complete. Unfortunately, Kevin Smith, the actor who played Ares, died in Beijing, China after suffering a severe head injury in a fall in 2002. Lucy and Renee is appearing on Saturday and Sunday.
Another exciting reunion is from The Princess Bride! Not only will Chris Sarandon ‘s Prince Humperdinck and Wallace Shawn’s Vizzini be there, but the Man in Black himself, Cary Elwes’ Westley will be in attendance! Cary Elwes is my number one favorite actor. I actually first saw him in Robin Hood: Men in Tights and I have loved him ever since. I HATE horror films, but I watched Saw just for him (just once, though). I met him once before and I broke down in tears, the first and only time I have ever cried when meeting a celebrity. I would love to meet him again to have his book, As You Wish: Inconceivable Tales from the Making of The Princess Bride, signed. Of course, Chris Sarandon is also the voice of Jack Skellington from one of my favorite movies, The Nightmare Before Christmas, so he will be signing a Jack photo. Wallace Shawn also voices Rex from the Toy Story movies. With so many good characters, how can I choose just one photo for each?! Wallace and Cary will be there on Saturday and Sunday, and Chris Sarandon will be there Friday, Saturday, and Sunday.
Another actor who seems to find himself in multiple fandoms is Karl Urban. Not only is he Eomer in the Lord of the Rings trilogy, he was Julius Caesar on Xena: Warrior Princess, Doctor ‘Bones’ McCoy in the rebooted Star Trek movies, and has now joined the MCU as Skurge in Thor: Ragnarok. Chances are, he will pop up in your fandom sooner or later and I could not be happier. Karl is appearing on Saturday and Sunday.

Another Lord of the Rings trilogy guest is Master Frodo himself, Elijah Wood. He was born a year before me and was a child actor, so I feel like we grew up together. I remember him in movies like Radio Flyer, The Adventures of Huck Finn, The Good Son, and Deep Impact (among others) before LOTR. I also loved his television show, Wilfred, about a man that sees a dog as a human dressed in a dog suit. I already have him on a Frodo and Ryan from Wilfred picture. Now if I could only meet the title character, Jason Gann! Elijah is appearing on Saturday and Sunday.

Now to meet Jason Gann to complete this picture from Wilfred.

One of the hottest guys around, Jason Momoa, will also be there on Saturday. Besides playing the doomed Dothraki, Khal Drogo, in Game of Thrones, he is now Aquaman in the DC Extended Universe. I have met him twice before and I would meet him again in a heartbeat. One of the nicest people, in addition to being incredibly good-looking and fun-loving. Jason is only going to be there on Saturday and is sure to have long lines!
I’ll be back to talk about some of the other celebrities attending Megacon, as well as comic book artists, writers, and creators, and Star Wars Galactic Nights in subsequent posts. Hope to see you there!
