Big Easy Con Kicks Off Summer!

As comic con fans, we are super lucky in this area. We have a large winter comic con. Great fan conventions are also short drives away in Lafayette, Jackson, and Pensacola.

Now, with Big Easy Con our summer will be kicked off in style.

Celebrity Guests

Of course, the pull for every comic con is the celebrity guests. Big Easy Con and Leftfield Media are putting together a stellar lineup.

There are a few horror legends that will be appearing that I can’t wait to meet (The Mrs. doesn’t watch horror, to my horror). Robert Englund has scared generations as Freddie Kruger. I’ve always wanted to meet Linda Blair. The Exorcist is as thought-provoking as it is scary (and it’s off the charts scary). It’s a brilliant piece of cinema, and Ms. Blair is a huge part of that.

Comic Guests

We are super excited about the comic artists that will appear at Big Easy Con. In fact, I’m afraid I’ll have to bring a rolling suitcase full of comics for this lineup.

Topping the list for us is Charles Soule.

He has worked on Daredevil, Death of Wolverine, and, Star Wars. In fact, we met him recently at Star Wars Celebration. I told him how excited we are that he is coming to Big Easy Con. He replied that he loves New Orleans and looks forward to being at the convention as well.

Adam Kubert’s drawing has graced Spider-man, X-Men, and Wolverine. I have a few X-Men that he drew and hope to meet him at the convention.

If you buy posters from artists or have posters signed by artists/celebrity guests, get a poster tube. Clear is best because you can see your artwork and make sure it’s yours. Pro-tip: put tissue paper that you use with presents in both ends to protect the ends of your poster!

Big Easy Con Junior

Going to cons for us has changed. We have a little one. The Nola Nerd Baby has already experienced three fan conventions. Big Easy Con will be the first one for which she will be able to walk. Which means, this will be a fun con!

What will set Big Easy Con apart is the Big Easy Con Junior area. This area will be ” an interactive and fun-filled live event open to families, fans, and media! Families can expect to meet their favorite characters, experience tons of hands-on activities and visit an entire stage dedicated to kids programming the whole weekend!” This area’s sponsor is The Toy Association.

This should be an interesting experience for the Nola Nerd Baby!

Big Easy Con kicks off summer by taking place June 1 and 2 at the Ernest N. Morial Convention Center. Saturday will be from 10 am to 7 pm. Sunday’s festivities will be from 10am – 5 pm.
