Eating: Amazing Fried Chicken at The Praline Connection

The Praline Connection Menu

Having bought tickets to the Old New Orleans Rum Distillery through Living Social, we decided that a mid-October Saturday was the perfect time to go. But first, we had to eat. The Distillery is on Frenchman but in between the interstate split. We decided to try a Marigny restaurant. Cristina left it up to me decided. Having scoured online menus that would make us both happy, we ended up at the Praline Connection.

I started off with some hog’s head cheese served with garlic toast. The cheese was very good with a bit of a kick at the end. Also, I usually eat the mine (bought at my local farmer’s market) with just crackers. The garlic toast was a great compliment to the meat bringing a different type of spice besides heat.

For our main course, Cristina ordered the fried chicken which is made to order so if you go be ready to wait a little. Of course, this is a good thing. I ordered the roast beef with French fries. First of all, the French fries come at an extra charge, but I felt I was undercharged by the amount of the fries I received. The roast beef was very good considering it was sliced roast (I’m a shredded roast beef man). The bread was perfect in that it was soft on the inside but crispy enough on the outside to handle the sloppiness of the roast beef. Cristina’s chicken was perfect. In fact, because this is a family blog, I can’t write the word she used to describe how good it was.  Ok, she used the word fantastic, but she added two syllables to the middle of the word.   Crispy, hot, and well seasoned, the chicken was defiantly worth the wait. Served with two sides and corn bread, this is comfort food at its finest. The only downside to the chicken is that I’m not sure I would order anything else the next time we go.   I don’t see a problem with that.

There is a candy store inside of the restaurant that has pralines. While excellent pralines, my ninety-one year old grandfather still makes the best. In fact, he is probably resting from making over 500 of them for the French Food Festival.
