Category: About The Nola Nerd Couple

We are delighted you found Nola Nerd Couple. This website started as a way for us to share our travel experiences. The blog used to be CookTravelEat. However, we quickly realized that we kept attending nerdy events and doing all kinds of nerdy things. We evolved into the Nola Nerd Couple. We started writing about Star Wars, Comic Cons, comic books, etc. Then in 2017 we found out we were having a little girl and now we are a trio (even though we aren’t changing the branding til she pulls her weight by posting on this website!)

We hope you enjoy our site and if you want to see us cover an event near us, let us know! You can reach us at mrnolanerd@nolanerdcouple.com

A Blogger Dealing with Writer’s Block

Kurt HargisSeptember 3, 2019November 18, 2019 63 Views

Ugh. Writer’s block. I’m a blogger dealing with writer’s block for nearly three months. I want to write for the blog, I just can’t think of anything to write. It’s not about topics; I have a bunch listed on Trello. In fact, I have an interview with cosplayer, Jen Eyre,…

Treat Students The Way They Want to Be Treated

Kurt HargisJuly 1, 2019February 21, 2020 67 Views

Ignore the Golden Rule As a teacher, you can’t follow the golden rule. I don’t have the same experience as a black student, gay student, or female student. I need to treat students the way they want to be treated. This doesn’t mean give them what they want, but to…

Happy Birthday, Mrs. Nola Nerd Couple

Your Birthday, My Present Today, is my lovely wife’s birthday. Yet, I feel like I’m the one getting the present. The last eighteen months have been rough. Extreme nausea, prepartum depression, preeclampsia, gall blader surgery, and a hernia are just some of the challenges she faced and overcame. I try…

Kurt HargisDecember 10, 2018April 9, 2024 84 Views

2018 Was a Challenging Year To say this year has been exciting would be an understatement. It has been the best year ever, but it nearly was the worst year as well. The struggles my wife had in pregnancy didn’t end with delivery. She had to be rushed to the…

Mr. Nola Nerd Couple’s grandfather passed away last week. He lived a long, productive life full of good works. He was a member of the greatest generation. He volunteered at the Larose Civic Center right until the end. Today, we put him to rest. We wish we would have gotten…

Welcome to NolaNerdCouple.com!

Hey there! We're a family living just outside of New Orleans, sharing our adventures in fandom, family life, and everything in between.

What started as a food and travel blog (CookTravelEat.com) evolved into this nerdy wonderland when we couldn't stop sharing our passion for pop culture, gaming, and conventions. While we still love sharing our culinary quests and travel tales, we've embraced our true form as nerds with a love for sharing our adventures.

What's New in 2025?

We're switching things up! Instead of focused single-topic posts, we're moving to a weekly newsletter format where we can share all our adventures, thoughts, and experiences in one place. Since this blog is our passion project alongside our teaching careers, this format lets us better balance sharing our stories while keeping up with life. Don't worry - we'll still do occasional deep-dive posts when something extra special comes along!

What you'll find here:

  • Weekly dispatches about our nerdy adventures
  • Convention chronicles
  • New Orleans explorations
  • Family travel tales
  • Fandom discussions
  • Food discoveries

Find us on:

  • Bluesky
  • Facebook

  • Instagram
  • YouTube

Want to share your own nerdy story? We love guest bloggers! Drop us a line.

Thanks for stopping by our corner of the internet. Live long and prosper! 🖖
