As a lifelong fan of geek culture and conventions, some moments stand out as truly unforgettable—and meeting Tom Hiddleston at Wizard World Philadelphia was one of those moments. From the excitement of standing in line to the overwhelming joy of shaking hands with Loki himself, this day was everything I could have dreamed of and more.
In this post, I’ll take you through one of the most magical experiences of my fandom journey. Whether you’re a fellow Marvel enthusiast, a fan of Tom’s other work (The Night Manager, Midnight in Paris), or love seeing what it’s like to attend a Comic Con as a family, I hope this story inspires you to embrace your nerdy adventures.
The Countdown to Meeting Tom
The day started with pure excitement. I was dressed head to toe in my Loki gear—because, of course, that’s how you honor the God of Mischief! From the moment we arrived at Wizard World, there was this electric energy in the air. Fans of all ages were buzzing about meeting Tom Hiddleston, and I couldn’t help but count down the hours until it was my turn.
When I finally made it to the line, I could feel my heart racing. Standing just a few feet away from the red curtain separating us from Tom, I couldn’t contain my excitement. As I waited, I kept thinking about what I’d say to him—would I freeze up? Would I cry? Spoiler: I did both!
The Big Moment
And then it happened. Tom Hiddleston walked through the curtain, and everything else just melted away. He was kind, gracious, and even more charming in person than I could have imagined. When it was my turn, I managed to say, “How did you like Louisiana? That’s where I’m from!” (Because, of course, we NOLA nerds have to represent our home state wherever we go!)
Tom smiled and answered with such warmth, sharing that he loved New Orleans and had a great time visiting. At that moment, I felt like I wasn’t just meeting a celebrity—I was having a real connection with someone who appreciated the same things I love about my home.
And yes, I absolutely geeked out afterward. I may have said “I’m never washing this hand again,” and I definitely teared up. It was surreal to meet someone whose work has brought so much joy to my life.
The Fan Panel: Inspiration from Loki Himself
After the meet-and-greet, I attended the fan panel, which was just as incredible. Tom spoke about his experiences in the Marvel Cinematic Universe, shared behind-the-scenes stories, and even gave some heartfelt advice to fans. One moment that stuck with me was when he said:
“You only get one life, and it’s a short one. Spend it doing things you love. The more you love what you do, the more you inspire those around you.”
As a teacher, parent, and fan, his words really resonated with me. It’s a reminder to chase your passions with everything you’ve got and to create an environment full of love, creativity, and inspiration—whether that’s at home, in the classroom, or at a convention.
Why This Day Meant So Much
This experience wasn’t just about meeting a celebrity. It was about celebrating fandom, connecting with others who share the same passions, and creating memories that my family and I will cherish forever. As a Nola Nerd Couple, we’ve always believed in the power of storytelling and fandom to bring people together, and this day was the perfect example of that.
Whether it’s planning a family trip to a Comic Con, introducing our daughter to the things we love, or simply sharing these moments with our readers, we’re so grateful for the chance to live this nerdy life.

And since that day, my fandom has only grown. He continually amazes us with how much he puts into each Loki appearance. He was excellent in the Essex Serpent, and we can’t wait to see Life of Chuck!
