Missing Star Wars Celebration Anaheim

A First for Us

Well, the unthinkable happened. During the summer, Star Wars Celebration tickets went on sale. We didn’t purchase any. For the first time since Celebration IV, it looks as if we are missing Star Wars Celebration Anaheim 2020.

We don’t want to miss the Celebration, but a combination of factors has contributed to this decision.

Reasons for Missing Star Wars Celebration Anaheim

First, it’s early August. It is a lot harder for us, as teachers, to miss at the beginning of the school year than in April, the time of the last few celebrations. Missing means sub-work. Later in the semester, it is easier to give work than in the beginning.

Secondly, selling tickets was not the right time for us. It wasn’t long after Celebration Chicago that they went on sale. Plus, Mrs. Nola Nerd was in Korea on a once-in-a-lifetime trip when they went on sale. While that was funded mostly through a grant, the money that would typically be used to buy tickets was instead allocated to purchasing items for the trip to Korea.

On the way to Celebration Chicago.

Finally, the Nola Nerd Baby changes things. Now, we have no problem bringing her to conventions. Let’s face it, she will grow up at conventions. It’s more of a memory thing for her. She will be two and a half years old. There’s no way we’re going to go to Anaheim and not visit Disneyland. However, we would like her first time to be one she can remember. We want to wait and save money so we can invest in trips like this when she is older.

Maybe, Someday

As of now, we have no plans on applying for press passes. We might change our minds. We will have friends visiting who can help us with some reports. Of course, we will do all the pre-coverage we normally do for it. Plus, we will be active on social media, retweeting all the fun others are having.

But at the end of the day, NolaNerdCouple.com is a labor of love. Yes, we have ads on our site, but we are still in the red when you consider the amount of money we invest in this site. We run this website because we love spreading the gospel of nerd culture, not to make money. Yet, this means we have to be mindful of how much we spend.

And unfortunately, that means we will be missing Star Wars Celebration Anaheim 2020.
