How We Made the Transition to Table Food

Thank You, Baby Bullet

The Nola Nerd Baby makes 11 months this week. Where has the time gone??? She is getting so big, and she is so much fun. As she grows, so does her appetite. Over the last two months, she has done a great job with the transition to table food.

Making a mess with oatmeal

We introduced foods to her by making our own and then blending it in the baby bullet. She has loved everything. Well, one time she didn’t like avocado, but we think that was because she was sick at the time.

Of course buying fresh food is wonderful. However, we both work and that sometimes posed problems. We often used frozen vegetables. Frozen vegetables are wonderful because the only ingredient is the vegetable(s). Also, they don’t spoil.

We also slowly introduced spices to her food. Cinnamon in her oatmeal, rosemary in her green beans. We even blended up vegetables from take outs especially if they had meat in them (such as green beans with ham). This made the transition to table foods easier.

Table Food

Well, more and more she became interested in what we were eating. If we ate, she had to eat too, even if she wasn’t hungry.

We did make her food a little more chunky, or purchase the gerber one with chunks. However, that didn’t last long.

Now, we are at the point, that she has what we are having. If we are having eggs and grits, she is having eggs and grits. If we are having chicken and rice, she is too.

This includes when we go out. We went to New Orleans Hamburger and Seafood Company the other night. We decided to order the red beans as part meal for her but mainly as a leftover for me at lunch. Baby girl ate way more than we expected, and I had a much smaller lunch than I anticipated. The same thing happened when we went to Blue Oak BBQ. She couldn’t get enough of the pulled pork, brisket, mac and cheese, and baked beans.

However, it didn’t really hit us how grown she was until our daycare suggested that she eat the big kid food instead of us bringing baby food. I wanted to scream she is still baby.

But we know better.

She’s our big girl now.
