Friday is the first official day of Star Wars Celebration programming. Thursday is technically a sneak peek day. We will be there on Thursday, but that will be to shop and get a few autographs. Looking at the programming guide these are my picks for the Friday Panels at Star Wars Celebration
Star Wars: Episode IX
Will we get a trailer? With a title? Everyone attending celebration wants to enter this panel. That’s why the lottery system is a good idea. Luckily, the VIPs get in no matter what and the Mrs. has a VIP.
11-12
Skytalkers Podcast
This podcast is easily one of my favorite Star Wars podcasts out there. The hosts, Charlotte Errity and Caitlin Plesher, bring a refreshing, sophisticated look at the saga.
12-12:45 Podcast Stage.
Vader Immortal: A Star Wars VR Series
As a computer science teacher, I’m interested in VR technology. As a Star Wars fan, I can’t wait to see what they do with this technology.
1:30-2:30 Celebration Stage.
Star Wars Movie Trivia: Battle of the Masters
The current Star Wars Trivia champion is one of the hosts of Star Wars Explained (which is my favorite Star Wars youtube channel), Alex Damon. Five challengers will compete to take him on, including Mr. Damon’s wife and co-host, Mollie. This should be interesting.
2:15-3:15 Fan Stage.
The Music of Star Wars: The Phantom Menace with David Collins
I’ve always loved the Phantom Menace. Yes, it can be silly, but it makes up for it in action and with the performances of its three main characters. Moreso, it has some of John Williams’s best music. And that’s saying something. Duel of the Fates is still one of the most amazing music moments in the movies.
3:30-4:30 Galaxy Stage.
(This overlaps with Timothy Zahn. It will be hard to decide.)
Predicting the Future with Star Wars: Using Science Fiction and STEM to Inspire Tomorrow’s Makers.
Even though this is at the same time as the author’s roundtable, it’s these types of panels that make Star Wars Celebration special. Star Wars, because it is more of a fantasy, doesn’t get a lot of the credit it deserves in inspiring people in the STEM fields. Star Wars rarely talks about science, but it’s all over the saga. Characters are always building, flying, or fixing something.
4:30-5:15 Star Wars University Stage.
Covering Star Wars
While I earned a press pass to Star Wars Celebration for our coverage, I’m still relatively new to this. The names on this panel have been doing it for a long time in a variety of ways (TV, Print, Podcasting, Blogging). I’m looking forward to learning from this panel.
6:30-7:15 Fan Stage.
Of course there were more panels I wish I could attend. Unfortunately it’s like a fesitval with many stages – choices have to be made. These are my picks for the Friday panels at Star Wars Celebration.
See our picks Saturday and Sunday.
