Mr. Nola Nerd Couple’s grandfather passed away last week. He lived a long, productive life full of good works. He was a member of the greatest generation. He volunteered at the Larose Civic Center right until the end. Today, we put him to rest. We wish we would have gotten…

Kurt HargisOctober 22, 2018February 7, 2020 77 Views

Rare Park Days For our readers that don’t live in Louisiana, you have to understand that Fall, the season, is a rare thing.  We get a few days that are in the 50s and 60s.  When we get to the low 50s and 40s, it starts to get too cold…

Smiles and Hurricane Michael

Kurt HargisOctober 16, 2018February 1, 2019 86 Views

The Calm at the Center of a Personal Storm Health-wise, the last year has been awful.  In fact, I wrote about it in last week’s parenting post.  I also used this metaphor to describe our sweet little one: So, the Nola Nerd Baby has been at the center of this…

Parenting: Living in a Tropical Storm Area

Kurt HargisSeptember 10, 2018 59 Views

We never really have been afraid of low level tropical storms.  Hurricanes, yes, but where we live, tropical storms aren’t cause for alarm besides taking care of your lawn. That was before having a kid. Before having a kid, we can go without electricity for awhile.  With a baby, it…

Parenting: We Didn't Put Baby on a Schedule, But Here We Are

Kurt HargisAugust 30, 2018 70 Views

From the very beginning, we choose to be on demand parents.  We fed her when she was hungry and put her to bed when she was tired. We never tried to do a schedule, but she found one anyway. She developed her own schedule.  She wakes up, plays for about…

Welcome to NolaNerdCouple.com!

Hey there! We're a family living just outside of New Orleans, sharing our adventures in fandom, family life, and everything in between.

What started as a food and travel blog (CookTravelEat.com) evolved into this nerdy wonderland when we couldn't stop sharing our passion for pop culture, gaming, and conventions. While we still love sharing our culinary quests and travel tales, we've embraced our true form as nerds with a love for sharing our adventures.

What's New in 2025?

We're switching things up! Instead of focused single-topic posts, we're moving to a weekly newsletter format where we can share all our adventures, thoughts, and experiences in one place. Since this blog is our passion project alongside our teaching careers, this format lets us better balance sharing our stories while keeping up with life. Don't worry - we'll still do occasional deep-dive posts when something extra special comes along!

What you'll find here:

  • Weekly dispatches about our nerdy adventures
  • Convention chronicles
  • New Orleans explorations
  • Family travel tales
  • Fandom discussions
  • Food discoveries

Want to share your own nerdy story? We love guest bloggers! Drop us a line.

Thanks for stopping by our corner of the internet. Live long and prosper! 🖖
