For the next two weeks, most of our blogs will be about Wizard World New Orleans. The Convention is held at the Morial Convention Center on January 6,7, and 8th. This week we will be previewing the event, and next week reviewing the event.
A big part of conventions is the ability to meet celebrities. However, this can tend to be expensive. This is why we enjoy panels. Panels allow you to be the interviewer of a celebrity. Well, that’s if you stand in line and get to ask your one question. It allows the guest to connect with their fans, and the fans a chance to be in a somewhat intimate setting with a celebrity. Sometimes, the questions can get cringeworthy, especially when someone forgets the celebrity is not their character. However, over the years, I find better and better questions being asked at these events. In fact, last year at Wizard World Philadelphia, I noticed that questions asked by fans and answered by Tom Hiddleston and Chris Hemsworth ended up as news stories on major comic book news sites.
Here is a preview of some of the celebrity panels at Wizard World New Orleans on Saturday:
1:00-1:45: Guardians vs the Audience with Dave Bautista, Michael Rooker, and Sean Gunn will be held at the Main Stage. Since Mrs. Nola Nerd Couple bought a Bautista VIP you will definitely find us at this panel.
1:30-2:15: From Juice to Shades: A CONversation with Theo Rossi in room 243. Mr. Rossi played the tragic character Juice on Sons of Anarchy and is Mrs. Nola Nerd Couple’s favorite actor on that show.
2:00-2:45 The Truth Is Out There, a CONversation with David Duchovney and Mitch Pileggi will be on the main stage. This should be a special treat for all X-Files fans out there.
2:30-3:15 It’s Morphin’ Time, A CONversation with Jason David Frank will occur in room 243. Chances are you will be sitting next to someone who is dressed as a Power Ranger at this panel.
3:30-4:15 You Can’t Take the Sky from Me, A CONversation with Jewel Staite will be held in room 243. Mr. Nola Nerd Couple is a huge Firefly fan, and normally you would find him at this panel, except he will be on his own panel at the same time (more about that later).
4:30-5:15 Checking In, a CONversation with Max Thieriot will be held in room 243. The Bates Motel star will be answering questions during this panel.
People who purchased VIPs for artists are the only ones guaranteed seats for those panels. Seating is first-come-first-served. Panel rooms are not cleared after each session.
Later on today, I will highlight the celebrity panels that will occur on Sunday. If you are new to a con, we highly recommend you plan out your day, especially if there are certain people you want to meet and panels you want to attend. You will never be able to do everything, but good planning goes a long way in making sure you can do all that you want to do.
