ComicCon-ing: Comicpalooza Dares To Reach Punishingly Good Levels

Of course, I make an update of the announcements Comicpalooza has been making on Monday.  I swear they read my post, then told me to hold their beer, because the rest of the week were made up of fantastic guest announcements.

Charlie Cox: That’s right, Daredevil will be in Houston for Comicpalooza.  He joins fellow Defenders, Mike Colter and Finn Jones. Mrs. Nola Nerd Couple is still deciding if she wants Daredevil or Stardust.

Elden Henson: Daredevil’s law partner Foggy Nelson will also be at Comicpalooza.  I wouldn’t be surprised if he signs quite a few Might Duck pictures as well.

Geoffery Cantor:  Mr. Cantor plays newspaper editor Mitchell Ellison on Daredevil.

Paul Wesley: The star of Vampire Diaries will be at Comicpalooza.

Judge Reinhold: Probably the first two rated R comedies I saw were Fast Times at Ridgemont High and Beverly Hills Cop.  Therefore, I’m super excited to meet him in Houston on May 12-14.

Pom Klementieff – If Ms. Klementieff’s name doesn’t ring a bell now, the week before Comicpalooza it will with her portrayal of Mantis in Guardians of the Galaxy Vol 2 which comes out the week before.

Chuck Norris:  Chuck Norris needs no introduction.

Jon Bernthal: The man who makes the Punisher such an interest character will be at Comicpalooza.  Mr. Bernthal has also appeared in The Walking Dead and The Wolf of Wall Street.

See you in Houston.

ComicCon-ing: We Have Been Chosen as a Comicpalooza Podcast Partnership Program

Our podcast has come a long way.  A year ago we bought the equipment and then an emergency situation at work called Mrs. Nola Nerd Couple to change her duties.  She didn’t have time for the podcast because she had to focus on her day job.  Her hard work paid off in that she was named Teacher of the Year!

I carried on doing the music podcast, but it’s hard to do a solo podcast.  However, once she settled into the process, we were able to pick up doing the podcast regularly. We are still teaching ourselves the process of producing a podcast.  However, it is one of my favorite hours of the week.  We would have these conversations anyway, but it’s great to have an hour set aside to have a face to face conversation, even if the point is to have other people listen in.

At first, we really weren’t sure if people were listening.  Then one day, Comicpalloza asked us if we applied to their podcast program.  We honestly weren’t sure if we were ready, but we took this as the encouragement we needed.

We were ecstatic to find out this week that we were actually chosen!  Comicpalooza has a special place in Mrs. Nola Nerd Couple’s heart in that she got to meet Mr. Cary Elwes there.  This wasn’t a regular celebrity encounter.  She was able to tell him a story of how special he is to her and really was moved by it.  The staff and volunteers of this con have been great to us when were able to make, and friend of ours who have gone done panels there have had nothing but great things to say about it.  In other words, we couldn’t think of a better con to be a podcast partner with!

Plus, if you have been reading our blog posts about Comicpalooza, you know this will be a great con. Felicia Day, Finn Jones, Jason David Frank, Robert Englund, Lance Henriksen, Chad Coleman, Lawrence Gilliard Jr, Amy Jo Johnson, Mary McDonnel, Mike Colter, Danielle Panabaker, and Candice Patton will be among the guests at this con.

We hope to see some of our Louisiana and Texas nerd friends there, and maybe even some from beyond.

ComicCon-Ing: Space City Comic Con in Houston 2016

Cristina will share her experience of Space City Comic Son in this blog. Kurt’s experience will come tomorrow, with an editorial the following day.

Kurt and I had plans to attend MegaCon this year, but due to budgetary restraints, and the fact that we’re going to Wizard World Philadelphia next week, we decided to stay home. On a whim, we applied for media passes to Space City Comic Con (SCCC). We attended in January 2014 when it was in Galveston, TX and thoroughly enjoyed it. Luckily, we were accepted and found a cheap hotel close to the NRG Center. Since it was our anniversary weekend, May 28th marked five happy, nerdy years married, I decided to make sure Kurt had a great experience by meeting some of the Sons of Anarchy cast. SOA is one of Kurt’s favorite television shows and over fifteen people from the show were attending the con. SCCC pushed buying autograph tickets ahead of time and in order to ensure that we stayed on budget, I bought autograph tickets for Kim Coates (Tig), Ryan Hurst (Opie), Drea De Matteo (Wendy), and the elusive Charlie Hunnam (Jax). Kurt was going to have a wonderful anniversary present and we’d have a great time covering the con as media! Or so we thought… Continue reading
