Mississippi Comic Con (MS Trade Mart in Jackson, Mississippi, June 23-24):
We didn’t make it to the Mississippi Comic-Con this year because this little cutie had her baptism.

We wanted to attend. Meeting Linda Blair would have been awesome, and we just finished watching The Office so meeting Kate Flannery would have been a great start to a collection for that franchise.

Since we didn’t make it to the con, here are a few links to stories about the con:
A set of articles from the Starkville Daily News (Hail State!) about a young man who operates a lemonade stand to make it to the Mississippi Comic-Con. (1, 2, and 3)
An excellent walk through the show floor! (Check out the youtube channel for more great stuff!)

Louisiana Comic Con (The CajunDome, Lafayette, October 6&7): Ryan Hurst from Remember the Titans and Sons of Anarchy will be appearing at the con. We met him at the Space City Comic Con, and it was one of the highlights of that trip to Houston. Also appearing will be designer and illustrator Kathryn Shuff. You can see more of her stuff here.

Gulf Coast Fan Fest (Mississippi Coast Convention Center, Biloxi, October 13 & 14): Hercules! Hercules! – Kevin Sorbo will be making an appearance at Gulf Coast Fan Fest. He will be joining Ray Park, Sam Jones, Peter Davison, Jason Mewes, Denise Crosby, and Seth Gilliam. This is going to be a great con, and we can’t wait for it!

pensacon

Pensacon (Downtown Pensacola, Pensacola, February 22-24, 2019): I don’t know how Pensacon does it, but they get guests announced for their next con as soon as they present one closes. Ok, we do know how they do it. They treat their guests fantastically and equally. Artist Tony Isabella has remarked to us how wonderful he gets treated at this con. It shows in the guests that they get. I wouldn’t be surprised if plenty of artists and celebrity guests spread the wonderfulness of Pensacon amongst themselves. Here are just a few of the guests announced for 219: Kevin Conroy, Jonathan Frakes, Catherine Tate, Orlando Jones, Timothy Zahn, Charles Fleischer, Sean Gunn, Paul Freeman, Julian Glover, Diamond Dallas Page, Karen Allen. This is about one-fourth of the people they have announced. We will go through them more as we get closer to the con. Also, it will be Nola Nerd Baby’s first birthday on the Friday of Pensacon! She will think it’s a giant party for her!

ComicCon-ing: MS Comic Con, Louisiana Comic Con, and Gulf Coast Fan Fest Updates

Mississippi Comic Con (MS Trade Mart in Jackson, Mississippi, June 23-24): Woah.  I didn’t see this coming.  Not at all. Mississippi Comic con added Linda Blair to their list of celebrities coming to Jackson. The Exorcist is the greatest horror film ever and one of the best films to examine what it means to believe in something greater than yourself. Her acting is instrumental to the film’s success. For any serious horror fan autograph collector, she is a must get.  Joining her in Jackson will be the savior of the universe, Sam Jones.  Mr. Jones played the title character in Flash Gordon and himself in Ted. If you can’t get enough fun at the con there is the after party at Hal and Mal’s after. Editor’s note: We can’t make it to this con due to Nola Nerd Baby’s christening. So everyone going have fun for us and tell Ms. Blair hello for us!

Louisiana Comic Con (The CajunDome, Lafayette, October 6&7): This con will be held on October 6 & 7 at the Cajundome in Lafayette.  Joining Eisner award winner Rob Gillory will be Paul Blake. Mr. Blake is best known for his role as Greedo in Star Wars: Episode IV – A New Hope.  If you are a fan of Nintendo and Mario, then Charles Martinet is a must meet for you.  He is a great con guest and is super entertaining to all the fans that meet him. Besides voicing Mario, he has done voice work in Skyrim and acted in The Game as Micheal Douglas’s father.

Gulf Coast Fan Fest (Mississippi Coast Convention Center, Biloxi, October 13 & 14):  This con already has a great lineup and they keep adding to it weekly.  Rick Worthy of The Magians and Supernatural will be appearing at the con. One of my favorite artists, Ken Kelly, will be at the con.  He painted the covers for Love Gun and Destroyer by KISS. One of the few Star Trek members I haven’t met yet is Denis Crosby.  Maybe I can fix that the GCFF.  Also, appearing will be William Katt, or as I like to call him The Greatest American Hero.

Next week: A family illness kept us away last week, so we apologize for missing a week. Next week, we will add Pensacon to the rotation since they are announcing guests already!

ComicCon-ing: News from MegaCon, Mississippi Comic Con, Louisiana Comic Con and Gulf Coast Fan Fest

megacon

Megacon:  Again, we had a blast at MegaCon. We are in the process of doing a podcast about the con, but we just returned home from vacation and are looking forward to getting Nola Nerd Baby back on schedule. MegaCon as far as we know hasn’t released any dates for next year’s con, but their sister con, MegaCon Tampa Bay, will be held Septemeber 21-23. We will try to update our comic con previews weekly, and we will feature Tampa Bay as soon as they start announcing guests.

Mississippi Comic Con:  We attended the Mississippi Comic Con last year and had a great time. This con will be on June 23 and 24 at the MS Trade Mart in Jackson Mississippi. The lineup is impressive for a con that is probably the smallest of the ones that we cover.  It will feature Ryan Hurst, Austin St. John, Michael Biehn, Maile Flanagan, Kate Flannery, Todd Habekorn, David Fielding, John Morton, David Ankrum, Dickey Beer, and Jake the Snake Roberts. We have been binging The Office and are looking forward to meeting Kate Flannery.

Louisiana Comic Con: This con will be held on October 6 & 7 at the Cajundome in Lafayette. This con is a little far away, so it’s guest roster is limited. However, it does feature homegrown talent and Eisner-award winner Rob Guillory.

Gulf Coast Fan Fest: This con will be at the Mississippi Coast Convention Center on October 13-14, 2018. This convention is a brand new con, and it already has a great lineup.  Some of the celebrity guests include Seth Gilliam, Sam Jones, Ming Chen, David Naughton, Ray Park, and Jason Mewes.  Mr. Nola Nerd Couple is a massive fan of The Wire so he can’t wait to meet Mr. Gilliam

ComicCon-ing: Mississippi Comic Con

The Mississippi Comic Con will be held June 24 and 25 at the MS Trade Mart in Jackson, Mississippi.  The con has a great lineup and is an easy drive from New Orleans.

The main people we want to see are Jeremy Bulloch, Mark Dodson, Jerome St.John Blake, and Barbara Goodson.  They all have had various roles in different Star Wars productions.  Mr. Bulloch is most famous for giving life to Boba Fett.  We need him to complete a Fett picture we have that has Daniel Logan and Temora Morrison’s signatures. Mr. Dodson voiced one of Ms. Nola Nerd Couple’s favorite characters, Salacious Crumb. Mr. Blake portrayed Mas Amedda (a character I want to learn more about in the new canon) and well as quite a few others in the prequels.  Ms. Goodson, most famous for Rita Repulsa from the Power Rangers, voiced Mother Talzin in the Clone Wars, again a favorite of Mrs. Nola Nerd Couple.

There will be other Power Rangers guests there including Walter Jones and David Yost.  Wrestling fans from the cold war era will enjoy meeting Nikolai Volkoff. There will also be actors from Stranger Things and anime as well as several comic creators.

So you put on your best cosplay, breeze into that city and have people stop and bow! Cause we are going to Jackson and you should go to!

ComicCon-Ing: We Are Expanding Our Coverage of Comic Cons

We have been focusing on Comic Cons that we are definitely going to. However, we decided to start writing about cons in general with a focus on ones that are a days drive from New Orleans.  In other words, the ones we would attend if money were not an issue!

Currently, we cover Wizard World New Orleans, Pensacon and Star Wars Celebration. Here are some cons that we will start covering:

FanExpo Dallas – Dallas, Texas – March 31-April fed17-headerThis con will be held at the Dallas Convention Center.  This is a well organized con that we have had lots of fun attending in the past. Guests this year include Adam West, Burt Ward, Stan Lee, Tim Curry, Paul Wesley, and Ian Somerhalder.

Comicpalooza – Houston, Texas – May 14-17

comicpalooza_logo-2

This is a huge con held in the fourth largest city in the United States.  There are no guests listed as of right now, but we will check daily to see when people are being added.

MegaCon Orlando- Orlando, Florida – May 25-28megacon17-header-1We are definitely thinking about attending this convention as part of our anniversary trip.  Schedule to appear are Paul Wesley, Stan Lee, and Tim Curry.

Mississippi Comic Con – Jackson, Mississippi – June 24 & 25mscc17-fb-logo3This con, held at the MS Trade Mart, is a smaller con that is extremely afforadable especially for families.  Weekend passes are $30 and children 2-8 pay only $5.  Right now guests include Jeremy Bulloch (Boba Fett from the original trilogy) and Deep Roy (Charlie and the Chocolate Factory).

Fanboy Expo – Knoxville Tennessee – June 23-25

fanboykn

FanBoy Expo is growing each year. This year guests include Peter Weller, a CHIPSs reunion, a GI JOE voice actor reunion, Am Jo Johnson, and Jason David Frank.

Florida Supercon – Fort Lauderdale, Florida – July 27-30site-header-florida-superconWhile we still have a lot of time before this con, there are a few guests who have committed to appearing at Supercon.  These include Michael Cudlitz, John Barrowman, Ric Flair, Jason David Frank, and Joel Hodgson.

Dragoncon – Atlanta, Georgia – Sept 1-4

xsbrw1nrDragoncon usually gets great celebrity guests, but also features fantastic writers from science-fiction and fantasy. This con is held annually during labor day weekend.

MegaCon Tampa Bay – Tampa Bay – September 29 – Oct 1MEGACONTB17-header.pngWhile this con is too far away to have any guests booked for 2017, feed back from last years con was that it was a huge success.  The 2016 con had a great lineup featuring David Tennant, Matthew Lewis, and Brett Dalton.

Dallas Fan Days – Dallas, Texas – Oct 20-22DFD17-Header.pngAgain this con is too far away, but this is usually a smaller con with fewer guests.  That doesn’t mean they don’t get great guests! This event is held at the Irving Convention Center.

We will be writing updates weekly on these cons.  Also, make sure you check our twitter to see more news about cons!
